The Science of Sound & the Human Body

The human body is more than a chemical system. It is also a mechanical, electrical and biological system, with cells constantly responding to their surrounding environment.

Every cell is exposed to physical forces such as pressure, movement, stretch and changes in fluid flow. The body has specialised mechanisms for detecting these forces and translating them into biological signals.

This is known as mechanotransduction — the process by which a physical stimulus is converted into a cellular response.
